1. Building an academic highland for the Maritime Silk Road Studies
HuaQiao University Maritime Silk Road Institute aims to build an academic highland for MSR studies and to become a key think tank at the service of the national MSR strategy. On the one hand, the institute cooperates with well-known international or domestic academic institutions, including the East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore and National Institute of International Strategy at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, with the aim to build a research platform, to make full use of the advantageous resources in relation to overseas Chinese, and to undertake overseas field work and regional studies in South-East Asia. On the other hand, the institute invites famous international or domestic experts, officials, entrepreneurs and senior media professionals to hold MSR summit forums and to have conferences on the MSR strategy. In addition, the institute opens training programs for ASEAN government officials and senior managers, promoting China-ASEAN practical cooperation.
2. Building the High-end Forum for the Maritime Silk Road
The Maritime Silk Road Institute (MSRI), together with international academic institutions, ministries of the PRC State Council and other five joint constructors, hosted the High-end Forum for the Maritime Silk Road which involved high-ranking government officials or former officials, ambassadors, well-known entrepreneurs and researchers of universities or government research institutes from countries along the MSR, especially from South-East Asian countries. This high-end forum stresses the coordination of government, commerce and learning to exert its international influence. The forum is held once every two years.
3. Constructing database of experts, high-ranking government officials and industrialists
By employing various resources from HuaQiao University, international cooperative institutions (including East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore), national cooperative institutions (including National Institute of International Strategy at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and China News Service), and ministries of the State Council (including the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office), the Maritime Silk Road Institute set up the database of experts, high-ranking government officials and industrialists, which serves as the standby information and resources to facilitate research works of MSRI, including overseas investigation and research, feature reports submitted to ministries of the State Council, international symposiums on the Maritime Silk Road and training programs for ASEAN government officials.
4. Expanding cooperation with ASEAN countries through the training programs for foreign government officials
By uniting with national or international research institutions, including the East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore, Thai National Research Institute and National Institute of International Strategy at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and by making use of China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Fund, MSRI undertakes practical cooperation with ASEAN countries and set up a training platform for ASEAN government officials. Through the “Chinese Learning Class for foreign Government Officials”, the “Seminar on China-ASEAN Strategies”, the “Chinese Economic and Cultural Workshop for ASEAN Government Officials” and the “China-ASEAN Business Elites and Chief Executive Class”, MSRI provides various specialized training programs for ASEAN government officials, including the Chinese language, Chinese economy and culture, Asia-Pacific cooperation and China-ASEAN pilot free trade areas. These promote China-ASEAN cooperation and consolidate the community of shared interest and destiny between China and ASEAN countries.
5. Creating the website of Maritime Silk Road, starting the special journal of Maritime Silk Road studies and publishing the Blue Book of Maritime Silk Road Studies
The MSRI cooperates with research institutions of countries along the MSR to construct a media network and to build an information distribution platform for the MSR, with the aim to release recent research findings, to make full use of the first-hand materials and to optimize resource sharing.
